Florida Statutes, Section 316.613 requires the use of child restraint devices (car seats) for children of specified ages and height/weight.
Does a standard Florida auto policy provide coverage for damage to child restraint (car) seats? Historically, child restraint seats have been viewed as personal property and coverage is generally provided in the homeowner’s policy. The function and design of child restraint seats have significantly evolved in the past decades. State specific motor vehicle traffic laws as well as Federal regulations require the use of child restraint seats when transporting infants and children under certain size and age group. Does this mean, however, that car seats are covered by an automobile insurance policy when damaged in a collision?
Physical Damage Coverages (Collision and/ or Comprehensive):
The Physical Damage coverage in the typical auto policy covers “direct and accidental loss to your covered auto or any non-owned auto, including their equipment.”
